About the thesis
Rather than acting in isolation, daily lifestyle habits combine in varied ways. This research examined how such behaviors group together in the northern Netherlands and how these groupings relate to health. Based on five identified profiles, individuals with healthier routines—principally avoiding smoking, eating well, and staying active—showed a reduced risk of major chronic diseases. Moreover, these favorable patterns were linked to improved quality of life for individuals with obesity or type 2 diabetes, as well as lower mortality rates among older adults living with multiple conditions.
