About the thesis
This study examines peripheral neuropathy caused by oxaliplatin in colorectal cancer patients. Standard dosing relies on body surface area rather than body composition, which might influence side effects. Following a prospective patient cohort during treatment and across a two-year follow-up, the project evaluated links between drug dose and neuropathy severity, considering genetics and CT-assessed body composition. Higher oxaliplatin doses corresponded to more severe symptoms. Patients with less lean muscle exhibited stronger associations, but statistical evidence was insufficient to confirm an effect of body composition. Genetics showed no link to neuropathy. The findings support exploring tailored dosing.
