About the thesis
This research focuses on improving surgical cancer interventions. While emerging techniques use lasers to locate tumors more accurately than standard operations, optical penetration remains restricted to a few millimeters. The study examined a process to render surgically removed tissue transparent. By clearing the tissue in this manner, specialized microscopes can identify cancerous cells at depths of approximately one centimeter, overcoming the visibility barriers of untreated specimens.
