About the thesis
Rising city populations strain infrastructure at major transport hubs like Amsterdam Central Station, where space for physical expansion is limited but needs such as electric charging keep growing. This dissertation investigates how flexible infrastructure use, like sharing bus charging points with logistics vehicles, can match supply with demand without heavy construction. The study examines the nature and possibilities of such flexibility, analyzing its value for diverse stakeholders as well as the responsibilities, mandates, and organizational capabilities required to implement it. Furthermore, it explores how flexible operations can yield a positive societal cost-benefit balance at these urban hubs.
