About the thesis
This research examines how post-treatment care for breast cancer survivors can become more individualized. While growing numbers of women survive the disease, aftercare routines frequently adhere to a standard model that overlooks differences in personal recurrence risks and broader life challenges. By analyzing the experiences of patients and healthcare providers, the thesis reveals that physical, emotional, and practical difficulties often go unnoticed during regular checkups, preventing patients from obtaining suitable support. To address these gaps and encourage active patient involvement in their care decisions, the project created the Breast Cancer Aftercare Decision Aid. Designed to guide discussions on personal goals and support options, the tool proved practical for daily clinical use and was well received by both clinicians and patients.
