About the thesis
This thesis examines childhood pneumonia in Indonesia through combined clinical, microbiological, and social lenses. It investigates airway bacteria in children, assessing how vaccination and the COVID-19 pandemic affected carriage. Faced with recruitment difficulties, the research reveals that while parents support health studies, their willingness to enroll children depends on trust and transparent safety reassurances. The work also uncovers inconsistencies in how community health centres follow diagnosis and treatment guidelines, offering quality indicators to strengthen surveillance, diagnostic practices, antibiotic stewardship, and family engagement.
