Sobre a tese
The research examines mobile augmented reality as a way to make hard-to-see archaeological remains at Lofotr Viking Museum in Borg, Lofoten, more understandable. Many Viking Age traces there are buried or fragmentary, so visitors struggle to picture past buildings and how the landscape was lived in. It considers AR that places digital reconstructions, objects and activities where they may have been, linking the present landscape to archaeological knowledge. The work indicates that advanced technology or highly realistic reconstructions are not necessary; the key is how digital content connects with the physical site, visitors' movement, archaeological knowledge and the narrative. AR can also convey uncertainty by presenting several possible reconstructions instead of one, thereby displaying differing archaeological interpretations.
