About the thesis
The shift to renewables and broader electrification has made power electronic converters central to efficient, controllable energy conversion. Their increasing presence can nevertheless harm power quality, particularly when low switching frequencies are used to cut switching losses and raise efficiency.
The dissertation examines modulation strategies that use optimized pulse patterns so grid-connected converters can meet the power-quality limits set by harmonic grid standards at low switching frequencies. It reports that compliance is possible both under ideal grid conditions and when other grid-connected converters add harmonic disturbances. The work also considers uncertain disturbances, allowing compliance when their properties are only partly known or, within given amplitude bounds, not known at all. Numerical and experimental tests are said to confirm the methods and to support grid-friendly operation at low switching frequencies.
