A doctoral defense is public: anyone may watch.
About the thesis
The research examines how tyrosine kinase inhibitors reach and affect tumors, a process often constrained by toxic side effects when escalating doses. In a phase I clinical trial, high and intermittent doses of sunitinib achieved elevated drug levels inside tumors, which was associated with extended patient survival. However, a subsequent trial involving metastatic colorectal cancer patients revealed that this strategy failed to improve efficacy while causing more severe adverse effects. Additionally, the thesis indicates that PET scans performed shortly after starting anti-EGFR therapy may help determine whether the treatment is working, potentially permitting earlier therapy adjustments.
