About the thesis
This research investigates biological processes across three hereditary forms of anemia: sickle cell disease, IRIDA, and X-linked sideroblastic anemia (XLSA). For XLSA, evidence suggests that faulty hepcidin control contributes to iron overload, alongside notable symptom differences among individuals with identical mutations. In IRIDA, an isolated TMPRSS6 variant often proves insufficient to provoke illness without other genetic influences, leading the author to outline clinical recommendations for tailored therapy. Lastly, specific urine and blood proteins linked to early kidney damage were identified in sickle cell disease.
