Terms of service
The agreement between you and PhD TV: what the site is, what it asks of you, and what it can and cannot promise.

Who you are dealing with
PhD TV (phdtv.net) is run by Nikolaos Batalas, in Greece. These terms are the agreement between you and Nikolaos Batalas, and you accept them by using the site. “We” means Nikolaos Batalas and the curators who help keep the listings. What we do with personal data is set out in the privacy policy. Write to nikolaos.batalas@gmail.com about anything here.
What PhD TV is
PhD TV is a free guide to public PhD defenses that are streamed or recorded. Its listings come from universities’ public announcements and from people who send them in. We check what we can, but a time, a link or a name can be wrong, and a defense can be moved, closed or cancelled without our hearing of it: the university’s own announcement is what counts. The streams and recordings belong to the universities and the services that carry them; we only link to them, and the sites we link to have their own terms, for which we are not responsible. Some of the words on the site are written by language models, and can be wrong too.
Your account
You need to be at least 16 to make an account. Give your own name and an email address that is yours, keep your password to yourself, and answer for what is done with the account. You can stop using it at any time, and we delete it when you ask. We may close an account that breaks these terms, and tell you why unless the law or a risk to others stops us.
What you send us
What you send us must be true and yours to send: claim or write about a defense only if it is your own, add a picture only if you have the right to, and send nothing unlawful, nothing that misleads about who you are, and nobody else’s private details.
You keep the rights to what you send. You give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to publish it on PhD TV and in its feeds and previews, to fit it to the page, and to keep showing it for as long as the defense is listed. A curator reads what is sent before it is published, and may decline it, edit it or take it down later.
Using the site fairly
You are welcome to link to any page, share it and follow the calendar feeds. Do not try to get into what is not yours, send so many requests that the site slows down for others, use the forms automatically or for anything unasked for, or pass yourself off as someone else or as PhD TV. To reuse the listings in bulk, ask us first.
What we cannot promise
PhD TV is free, and given as it is. We do our best to keep it working and its listings right, but we cannot promise that it will always be there or always be right, and we are not liable for what comes of a wrong listing, a stream that did not work or the site being away. None of this limits a liability that the law does not allow to be limited, or your rights as a consumer.
Changes, law and disputes
When these terms change, so does the date at the top; before a change that matters takes effect, we email everyone with an account, and if you do not accept it you can stop using the site and ask us to delete your account. These terms are governed by Greek law, and the courts of Greece decide any dispute about them; a consumer in the European Union keeps the protection of the law and the courts of the country where you live. If something goes wrong, write to nikolaos.batalas@gmail.com first: most things can be put right with a reply.
